I really wish i could help. If i understood the tools to fix things like Buildings flaws, glitches Landmass imperfections and such i would be more than willing to do so or help in anyway i can. Those are things that can only be fixed by modifying the source code of the game engine or by using some software we have to make the changes more easily. The problem is that the software tools can only be used by one person at a time because the software can't integrate changes from more than one source. Theoretically we could take turns working on it, but we can't have more than one person making changes at once or one person's changes would take effect and the others would be locked out. Scripts are different. Any number of people can be writing scripts at the same time. We can dump them into the folder where we store scripts and they all work together fine. The same is true for media such as 3-D graphic models, 2-D "textures" and icons for spells, items and abilities. Also sound effects. "Textures" are 2-D graphics that wrap around the surface of 3-D models like a skin. Without the textures, the models are all white. So the best way that volunteers can help is to work on scripts or media. Also, we may want to put up some kind of website soon. We have already registered the domain name magicofthegods.com, but we're not currently using it. If you do see any more problems like the ones I just fixed with the buildings being misaligned with the ground, the lake that didn't go all the way from one shore to the other and that kind of thing, just tell me. With the proper tools, those things take only a few seconds to fix. That's not where we need help. Scripts can take days to write and debug. Speaking of that, we should have a special session for script testing. I previously said it should be out of character, but that's not necessary. The only thing that needs to be different between that and a normal session is that we'll have to reboot the server every time we load a new version of a script and at least one of us on the development team will have to be focused entirely on helping test and debug scripts and won't be able to do the usual things. Anybody have a suggestion for what time and day of the week would be good for that?

Unfortunatelly, my knowledge of databases it's almost zero, as I hadn't been working on this since college when I made a project using some DAO databases (I think it was in VB). I know a lot about databases, but unfortunately my experience is with Dbase and Foxpro and that's very different from MySQL. Some of the software we are using has been written to work specifically with MySQL or with its own .dat files so we don't have the option to use any database software that I am an expert in. But someone from The Soul guild has just sent me an e-mail offering expertise in MySQL, so maybe we'll get this worked out. regarding the cooking, I look forward to it. please send me the needed info so I can start. next week I take a little break from work, so I think I'll have time for extra activities (scripting that is) I'm going to start a new topic for this one. Here's a link to it: www.onlinegamemaker.proboards82.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=mogdiscussion&thread=63

If anybody downloaded version 01.29 for today's session, that's the wrong version. Version 01.30 is now available at the usual place. I left the old link up from last session by accident. Sorry.

Okay, but I don't want this to replace one of the regular sessions. Maybe we can do it after the regular session on Fridays.

That's funny. At today's session (Aug 8, 2008) the main thing that was added was a much improved underworld and for once, nobody died and went to the underworld. Oh well, I'm sure some of you will see it eventually.
Sorry that everybody had to create new accounts. I'm not sure why that was. I probably just made a foolish mistake when copying files over to the server computer and didn't get the .dat files. There's no way it's a bug.
I'll be extra careful to make sure you guys get to keep your characters and possessions for next time.

eh, I don't think that I remembered the old account anyway gonna make my necro char, and keep it in underworld from now on. gonna be a bit hard to spare time of the sessions between 2 chars, but I think it is a must that underworld gets the test part also

I am so sorry, Charles. I always die. No idea why I didn't this time. I'll try to do better next time... I know why I didn't die. I was too busy chasing fish...

Hello all. Yes i agree, Fishing has taken a turn for the better 24 in all i think, and the water was once again wet.
I noticed the Dwarf's had painted the Trusses White on the Cabins.
As for dieing, Sorry not this time, Time really does fly when having to much fun.
I noticed that the Dwarfs like to walk through the Cabins as well.
If you have a broom handy i can sweep the Deck of the Ship for ya. or if you have something else for me to do let me know. Many thanks and thank you for allowing me this pleasure.

Here's what I've been working on lately:
* Once Only Spawns for animals and NPCs
I have made progress on a revised system for spawning creatures and non-player characters. Details are in the thread entitled "Once Only Spawns."
As I indicate there, this will prevent animals and NPCs from spawning over and over again. Instead, if they get killed, they will stay dead. This will also allow more realistic ecosystems.
* NPCs drop their possessions when they die
This isn't working for some reason, but I have a script written to do this. I'm just debugging it.
* Animals drop meat when they die
This works for wolves already. I'm working on adding additional creatures.
* Ship voyages to Azmar Island
I'm working on making it much easier to get to Azmar Island and other places. This is an intermediate step to making it possible to hire a ship to go out to sea and search for new lands to explore.
* Reduced size of files to download
I started deleting some old files that don't need to be part of the download package anymore. When I was finished, the total size of the files was cut almost in half. This should mean it will download in about half the time.
* I've created a "cooked fish" item and I'm working on a cooking skill so people can cook all those fish they catch.
* The wiki has help info explaining various commands used in the spell scripting language. Not all of them were in the wiki before. Some are still not there yet, but I added a lot of them. There are now explanations of the faction commands, file commands, item commands, math commands and the parameter command and update progress bar command.

hello all, I am back after a week of sun bath at sea side ;D
Charles, regarding animals dropping meat when killed... shouldn't be a skill for that? And a different one for skinning... It just doesn't seems rights that one kills a soulless and gets a piece of meat just by that. He should get his knife and and start working so he can get a piece of meat/fang/skin....

Ideally, yes. The issue now is whether we want to let people have some way to get food by hunting now or wait until all that is set up.
I think it's better to get some system working first and then improve it. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the way I'm doing it.

I'm working on the cooking skill and preparing a special event that will allow a group of players to visit Azmar Island. I'm hoping to have both of them ready in time for today's session. (Aug 22, 2008)
