Early beta, hywalker? We've been calling it pre-alpha, construction in progress. Hi. Listen to the Paladin to be, With a Healer like Beepe we could go to open beta ;D tomorrow and not worry about it. I am also in another game that is into it's second year and has nothing on this. Chuckles.... I think they are doing a GREAT job. Even though i am now dead, in the Dungies of the dead. One day i will find a Pickaxe down there. Hehe Waves to Beepe.

Hi all. Permanent Death and PvP? How in tarnation will anyone survive past level 1 when it's open pvp and permanent death.
Open PvP will also bring every piece of evil this side of darkness to any game, Now that there are 1000+ free games anyone can have several games going at once, ALT +TAB is nothing new to MMO shifting now.
Some of these characters created as much havoc as possible then ALT+TAB in two seconds to another MMO leaving behind nothing but a mess. Now add permanent death and what happens?
/sigh PvP/ What ever happened to parties that lasted more than 5 minutes, what happened to people that just wanted to have fun without wondering if you are being set up. Sense i found out that this game will be open pvp, it already changed my way of thought towards everything. Trust.

one thing for sure: if someone pk's me, that someone it's gonna be hunted and underworld will be his playing ground. at the beginning there might be some "show offs" who will, let's say abuse this, but will change their mind soon enough. for every action, their will be consequences, and that is what players must learn. easy way or hard way, it's all up to them. and god forbid someone starts fighting for nothing against a Soul, 'cause that will bring wrath upon them

Hywalker,
Sorry to hear that you don't like the open PvP and how death works in the game. On the other hand, as you have seen, it has not resulted in the situation you fear, at least so far. If the game does get ruined by a massive invasion of PKers, the gods can always intervene. At the click of a mouse, we can disable PvP for certain areas or for the entire game.
Or we can slay or ban players just as easily.
So far, though, there has been no massive amount of Player killing by other players. In fact, there's no case of that I know of except for characters being killed by monsters that were controlled by players at the time. That's really no worse than PE combat with a really, really good AI.
As Thaero and others have pointed out, there is already a very powerful player organization called The Soul guild that is pledged to protect its members and hunt down and kill anyone who attacks any member. People always say that, but I think The Soul guild will really do it. If they don't, the various in-game religions also can be called upon to avenge murder or other attacks on players and if the priests (and perhaps paladins) of the religion are not up to the task, a quick prayer to their patron god and you could have all the assistance you need.
As I have also pointed out, "perma-death" is really not a completely accurate description of what happens in Magic of the Gods. First, there is an afterlife so "dead" characters can continue playing in the underworld which for people who like combat, may be more interesting than the world of the living. Also, if you die in the underworld, you come right back to life in the underworld so if you don't like serious death penalties, stay in the underworld and enjoy the action.
On the other hand, if you really want to get back to the world of the living, there are four main ways this can be done. The most obvious is to start a new character. This is automatic. The second option is to pray to the gods. While the number of players is small, this almost always works quickly. Later it may be more difficult to get the attention of one of the gods, but the third option is to have a cleric resurrect you. As the game goes on, there will be more powerful clerics who can do resurrections. The fourth way is to use a magic item that can resurrect your character. Such magic items already exist in the game and some player characters have them or did have them recently. If you can't get the attention of the gods and you can't find a cleric because you're already dead, you can start a new character and have the new character go on a quest to find a god or cleric or magic item that can resurrect the previous character. We have already reached the point where players have enough magic to resurrect the dead although no one seems to have figured out how to do that.
I hope this reassures you. Also, if you would like to have your original character back, (the one named Hywalker) you don't even need to pray to the gods. At this point, since all previous characters were deleted, you can just create a new character with that name and he will appear in the land of the living and you will have escaped from the Underworld due to a rare magical event that may never come again.
One other point I'd like to make about so-called "perma-death". Those who go around killing other players for no good reason or engaging in other in-game crimes, will probably have a difficult time getting resurrected. There are currently no evil gods. Valen was the only one who was leaning in that direction and he is gone. I doubt very much that Kraylus or Krellin are going to resurrect murderers so that they can continue on killing sprees. They can rot in the underworld. What cleric would resurrect someone like that? So far the only clerics with any healing powers are the priesthood of the religions of Kraylus and Krellin. Most or all of those priests are also members of The Soul guild which takes a very dim view of killing other players. I expect them to be reluctant to do such a resurrection. The magic items that can resurrect you are not easy to get and people who do not take seriously probably won't have them. Getting resurrected that way is basically the same problem as getting resurrected by a cleric. Then there's the option of starting a new character. A new character will have none of the skills or equipment of an experienced character and will have little ability to kill anyone.
I fully expect to see a lot of PvPers down in the Underworld helping to make it a hellish place by "ganking" everyone there. I expect there will be a lot less of that in the land of the living and that it will not be taken lightly.
I'm really not too worried about how this is going to go, but I admit that it is a grand experiment. It is one of the key aspects of game design where we are really trying something different. If we continue to succeed in running a game where PvP is enabled everywhere and serious penalties for death exist, yet some semblance of civilized behavior emerges, we will have accomplished something truly worthwhile. I don't think there is any game like that out there besides ours. Magic of the Gods is succeeding at that already. The only question is whether we can continue to do so. I think we can, but the gods can intervene if things go awry.
I hope you'll keep playing with us.

I am a pvp player. I enjoy this in every game I play, single or mass pvp, winning or loosing, the thrill it's everything for me. But I never was a pk'er. It's not in my nature to attack for no reason, I found myself most of the times defending (me or others) or hunting pk'ers for attacking a friend. My opinion it's that open pvp (without any safe zones) it's the way to go. Some guards in cities until the players enforce a local police might be acceptable. But like I said in other post, I want to be able the assassinate the "evil" king of other legion-clan-faction right on his throne if I am skilled enough to get there without a message popping "you are in safe zone". I also would like to see assassins guilds (in the future that is), who can for a fee does the dirty job for someone, or magic guilds who casts curses against a guild if payed... but that it's a talk for another thread

regarding fishing: as it is implemented now, it depends on the dwarf npc. isn't there a way to avoid that? the fishes are implemented as actors? because if so, I think a script can be made and called when the player uses his spearfish skill. something like:player uses skill when fish is near, if fish is in the X distance from the player (distance is the reach of spear, something like 2 meters or so) then with a probability related to the level of the skill (and maybe fish type), catch or not the fish.

Does what you are saying in any way relate to my being such a poor fisherman?

I have heard that games relate in many ways to our RL. It is true, I have never enjoyed fishing in RL. I enjoy the being outside in the fresh air and the lovely countryside, but I always let others do the actual fishing. Do you suppose the virtual fish know this?

I had a wonderful time today. I was taken along with Gerran to sheep island. I saw and KILLED a fiend. First one I have seen.
Got lost in the fog and ended up in a place where dwarfs were fighting ogres. Tronor rescued me.
All in all, it was another fun session.

Where to start: Well Beepe the Killer of fiends rescuer of Lives and just all round awesome Priestess. /bows to the Warrior Priestess. I was swallowed by mother Earth and ended up in the Underworld where everything was in total whiteness. (One must remember i was already swallowed by mother earth before getting to the underworld) There was a TINY pinhead speck that was me for a second or two, I tried Zooming in/out but with no results. (Logged out) logged back in twice with the same results (total white). Again i have Beepe to thank for the Resurrection and her healing powers. I do like Garons house and his honesty, thank you for returning the Fish and Spear. I only have one small problem so far, To much fun and not enough time. Between Killing wolves and looking at houses and Feinds.... Roaming the Sea and such, I think we should at LEAST have 10 hour sessions hehe.... well i can WISH.... Right System. OH before i forget I had a Memory Access Violation while selling my fish in port town. but only once. Had loads of fun, looking forward to Friday.
