Greetings,
I'm just being curious since the website has been updated after a long time of silence that is there a chance the game development will resume again?

Yes, there is a chance game development will resume again. After the very favorable response we got from players and the potential for a very good game that would make very good money, it seems insane to just drop this project.
Even now, over a year after MotG was taken offline, there is still no sign of any game company even working on a game that has most of the unique features and game concepts that Magic of the Gods had in 2008, not to mention the features we were so close to adding in.
Players all over the world continue to demand an "old school" "sandbox" MMORPG with real role playing, no character classes, a world players can permanently change, serious crafting and a player driven economy. People who did not play the game even say some of what we did is impossible such as letting every player permanently change the world -- yet having a world that is not thoroughly trashed by players. We had pvp anywhere anytime, but without griefing. We had almost all players doing actual role playing almost all the time.
True, most of the MMORPG players of the world don't want that. They want World of Warcraft. Fine, they've got it. But there are tens of thousands and possibly millions of players who do want the sort of game that Magic of the Gods was. They aren't the majority, but there are a lot of them, more than enough to make a game like this economically successful.
I have been talking to various people and exploring options. One of the best game engines in the world is available for us to use. Enough people have volunteered to work on the game that we almost have a full team. A company in China has offered to redo the whole game for us using Unity 3-D.
Unfortunately, all of these options require either a lot of my personal time or some money (as little as $60,000, maybe less) or both and I really can't spare either right now for a project that won't generate any cash flow for months.
I am working on another project that is generating cash flow now and if it can generate enough money, I plan to get Magic of the Gods back online. We could probably be online in less than three months after we start working on it again, even if we redo the game from scratch with a new game engine.
That's what's going on.

It's good to hear that MotG isn't truly dead yet. All of us who were here for the alpha are rooting for you.

Didn't notice your question until just now. No, there's not really any news. At some point, I'll probably have enough money to resume work on this. Not sure when that will be.

I would like to say that this is my first time ever posting. I heard about Magic of the Gods three weeks ago on another forum and decided to check out the website. I was so excited and amazed by the concept of the game that I went to download it, already imagining the adventures I would soon have. Fortunately I noticed the Server is down sign and began to read further, learning that the entire game was done. There I was thinking I was on the cutting edge of a new and exicting game only to find I was two years two late. For the last few weeks I have been looking for a similar game and have found nothing worth downloading. I hope to god you can remake this game. Good Luck

Thank you for that inspirational post. It really makes me want to get work started on the game again. As you can see from the update near the top right of the main website at www.magicofthegods.com I am now confident that I will have the funds to resume work on this game by January 2011 if I choose to. I have not definitely decided whether I will resume work, but it looks like money and the world's best game engine will be available then. I don't really have a development team anymore, but that's easy to fix once the money is available.
